There is something about blogging that makes people feel a whole lot closer than they are. Maybe it’s because you share yourself more than we do when we’re actually sitting down together instead of at separate keyboards.
There’s also something about being a military wife that makes it easy to meet other military wives because you instantly share something in common, and it goes deeper than a favorite color or a favorite band.
So, when Amy Maxwell (girl on the left and blogger extraordinaire at Gentle Whisper) emailed and asked if I wanted to do lunch with her and another blogger buddy, Rachel Harmon (girl on the right and equally blogger extraordinaire at Nothing Gold) my automatic response was absolutely! Name the time and place!
Amy and Rachel are headed out for a road trip today (read their adventures here and here, respectively) and Amy flew into Nashville and Rachel picked her up. Though they’ve known each other quite a while by phone and email, this was actually the first time they’ve ever met in person. So why not add one more stranger to the mix?
That’s where I came in.
I met them on the east side of Nashville at a McDonald’s with a large playland near the airport. Normally, I would be nervous about trying to figure out where I was going, but since I got my “Tom Tom” GPS – I have no fear!
We had a great time visiting and Rachel’s three children were absolutely adorable, and very well behaved! She is a great mom, I can tell. Her husband is at Ft. Jackson right now as a chaplain candidate. Amy has an incredible story – she is an Army chaplain candidate as well, going through seminary back in Missouri, while her husband is an Army reservist serving in Afghanistan. She was great! She told some really funny stories about what it’s like to be a chaplain candidate and a military wife of a deployed soldier to boot (all the other chaplains want to “practice” on her) and I think she is going to make an awesome chaplain for our soldiers.
Anyway, I better end this so I can go email the pics to Rachel and Amy. Have a great rest of your adventure ladies, and thanks for including me in part of it!
Happy Fourth!
