I will be the first to admit that cooking is not one of mine. When Cliff was deployed, I SOOO looked forward to the day he returned home and started helping with the cooking duties again. He cooks meat very well… I’m really good at burning it. I will say he’s lousy at macaroni and cheese (yes, the kind in the blue box). Apparently, my version is much better because he always asks me to do it. His noodles never turn out quite right. I finally figured out it was because he doesn’t let the water boil first. Hey, mac ‘n cheese champ? I’ll take it.

I bring up cooking because last night was our Wives of Faith Nov. meeting, and we had so much fun! There were just a handful of us ladies there, but Debbie Hall, mom to Jen Howe-my co-founder and partner in crime who helped me start Wives of Faith- did the program for us last night with help from Jen’s sister Allison (who we should just call mini-Jen because she looked so much like her!) and taught us so many tips on how to offer hospitality in our homes, easy to make appetizers and meals, and fun ideas for Christmas gifts. She gave away a TON of these beautiful things she had made, not to mention all the great food we got to sample, so much of it was from little trinkets and things she had found at Goodwill that she wrapped up in a beautiful way. I’m looking forward to trying some of the recipes in the near future. (I’m all excited – this is the first picture I’ve ever taken with my Palm Treo to use for my blog! Not the greatest quality or photo taking I’ve ever done, but hey it’s a start!)

Today, however, I am trying to make chili. It’s a white bean chili recipe I’ve had my eye on for a while and I finally decided today was the day to do it. I was all proud of myself – chopped up onions for it, it’s going to simmer all day, I’ll serve it with cornbread… it’s really cold today so it will be a perfect meal. My husband called this morning and I told him what I was working on.

“Oh, great! I can’t wait to try that!” he said excitedly. “Are those the kind of beans you have to soak overnight?”

Suddenly, my excitement is gone. “ssssssssooak?”

“Rrrrrrr,” I groaned. “But don’t you think they’ll still turn out ok, seeing as how they’re soaking and simmering all day?”

My wise husband quickly said sure. But he couldn’t resist adding, “don’t worry, I’ve got Pizza Hut on speed dial.”

He obviously has been married to me for a while.
