Well, I just realized that it is Dec. 6 and I still have not posted this month! Whew! Where is the time going?

The beginning of the month is usually pretty busy – we have our Wives of Faith monthly meeting and last night our leadership team “met” as well. I put that in quotes because out of the five of us, three are in different parts of the country. Jen wins the award for being the farthest – she’s in Hawaii; Emily and Renae are both in Texas, about an hour to two hours away from each other, and Allison and I are here in Nashville and are at least in the same town though in different counties. :) So, we meet via conference call. The capabilities we have thanks to technology just astound me.

Tuesday night we had our Nashville Wives of Faith Christmas ornament exchange and monthly get-together. This was a special meeting for me because it marks a year since we first started the group. When Jen and I met and started planning for that first meeting, we didn’t know if we would have anyone come or if it would just be us! One year later, it’s amazing to see what God has done: we have around 30 ladies as part of our Nashville group (though they don’t all come every month), a chapter near Ft. Hood, Texas with six to eight ladies, a new group starting in Clarksville, TN with seven to ten ladies and now we have a leadership team that is actively planning out our next year! God is so good and I am so excited to see the connections that are being made, and the support and encouragement that is happening for military wives.

The idea behind Wives of Faith is pretty simple, I’ll admit. We just want to see military wives connect. But sometimes that’s a hard concept for people to understand. In fact, the first question most ladies ask, when they hear about WoF, is “well, what exactly does the group do?” They wonder if we do care package parties, or do active fundraising for one military support organization or another. These are all good ideas and there are lots of organizations out there doing a great job and doing exactly those kinds of things – but Wives of Faith is there for the military wife.

As a military wife, you tend to have so much on your plate that you’re responsible for – your husband, your children, your job, your home – Wives of Faith wants to support that wife in all that she’s already doing by offering her emotional support and positive encouragement. It’s amazing how much better you can feel after you’ve had a chance to talk and visit with someone else who shares some common threads with you. That’s what I got to see at our get-together this past Tuesday – women coming together who didn’t even know each other…and not leaving until an hour past the time we were supposed to end, simply because they were having so much fun talking and relating to one another.

Really, if you think about it, this is a common need for every woman – not just military wives. And yet, how often do we take the time to do it? To sit down and have a cup of coffee with a friend and just talk?

What are some ways you try to make time to connect with friends? Is it by phone? By email? Do you actually – GET TOGETHER? :) I’d love to hear what you do to achieve connection with others. Please comment below! Have a great day!
