I know a lot of women who have trouble sleeping when their husbands are away for trainings or deployment. Cliff has been home for 10 months and even a 5-day training like the one he’s been away on this week still makes it hard for me to go to bed when he’s not here (thus why I’m writing at 2:30 in the morning…)

But I just opened up my Daily Light and turned to the evening devotional for the 20th. it may be a couple of hours late but it’s exactly what I needed to read….

For those of you not familiar with Daily Light (I wasn’t until the author I’m working with right now told me about it), Daily Light is a devotional that has each devotion made up of scriptures that have been matched together based on topic. So it’s like you’re reading a great thought-provoking devotional like My Utmost for His Highest, but it’s all scripture, literally, the words of the Bible.

Here was tonight’s…

Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place and
I did not know it.” And he was afraid and said, “how awesome is this place! This
is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”

“The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him.”

In peace, I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place-the Most High, who is my refuge – no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. He gives to his beloved sleep.

(Psalm 139:3. Gen. 28:16,
17. 2 Chron. 16:9. Ps. 4:8. Ps. 91:9-11. Prov. 3:24. Ps. 127:2.) (emphasis is mine)

If you’re a military spouse dealing with any type of separation from your husband or wife, I hope you can take comfort in the above verses like I have. It’s important to remember that God is watching over us as well as our spouses.

Have you had difficulty sleeping when your spouse is away? How have you handled it? Comment below and let me know! I’d love to hear from you!
