Happy New Year everyone! Today is one of my favorite days. It’s the beginning of a new year, new possibilities, new hopes and new dreams. It’s a time to reflect on the year before, and to ponder what’s ahead.
I know I have been very quiet these last couple of months. I’ve been reflecting on some things quite a bit. Life for me in one word is busy. That’s the word I usually choose, anyway. But I’m hoping to change that word this year. Oh, I’m sure my time will still be pretty crazy, but my hope and my goal is to make sure that whatever keeps my time is worth my time. Know what I mean?
Debbie Macomber, in her book Knit Together, talks about how each year she will choose a word for that year. I’ve never really done that in earnest, but I think I am this year. My word this year is a hard one. Discipline. I am not the most disciplined person. I am an idea person. A creative person. But discipline is not my forte. That’s probably one of the reasons why I am so good at starting things and not so very good at finishing. Oh, I finish, but it’s never quite like I had in mind at the beginning.
So, this year my word is discipline. I want to be more consistent in everything I do. Of course, that may mean cutting back on some of the things I do. We will see what happens. Right now, I have a lot of plates in the fire.
Wives of Faith gets back in motion Monday night with our first leadership team meeting of the year. We are changing some things up with our format and I am grateful for our team of ladies who offer such great insights and different gifts to the group.
AGreaterFreedom.com was finally completed this past fall after almost a two-year hiatus and now I must work on developing good content and finding good writers for it. If you are a writer and are passionate about military and would like to contribute, please contact me. There is no pay at this time, but we will be working on that toward the end of 2009. (Also, please keep my managing editor, Jessica, in your prayers. She had something very disappointing and tragic happen right before Christmas and her husband is a chaplain serving in Iraq right now, so she is dealing with some grief on her own right now. Ask God to give her peace and comfort right now.)
I am finishing up GOD Strong this month (my deadline is the beginning of February) and I will be doing revisions soon for Weekend Warrior No More. Stay tuned for more information on both of these books as it becomes available.
On a personal note, 2008 was a mixed bag for us this year. There were wonderful bright spots but there were also some major disappointments. There were many exciting things that happened but a few let-downs along the way as well. However, through it all, we know God was there and I know He is with us in this year too. That’s the wonderful thing about God – He is the one constant in a life of ups and downs!
May your first day of the new year be a wonderful one!
