A Promise: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” – Psalm 46:1-3, NIV.

A Proverb: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” – Proverbs 9:10.

I have been reading over Psalm 46 quite a bit since Friday. We have our South Nashville meeting tonight for Wives of Faith and I’m talking about “When Fear Steals Our Focus.” I’ve written about this topic before, in GOD Strong, which will come out in 2010, but I felt it was appropriate to speak on with so many deployments still occurring, the economic times that we’re in and just the fear of the unknown that many are dealing with right now.

No matter what we’re dealing with, God is always there to be our refuge when times are hard. I think sometimes people wrestle with this. They think, but if God REALLY loved me, then why is He making life so difficult for me? But I don’t think that’s how God works. God loves us, period. I think the hard times come and go, regardless, and I think God uses hard times to draw us closer to Him. To learn. To grow in our walk with Him, in our character and in our person. Every experience we go through can later be shared with someone else when they go through something similar.

Too often, though, when we hit tough times, we feel a little lost. A little frantic. We start trying to take care of everything ourselves instead of turning to God first. It’s a little counterintuitive, I think. But, when we do turn everything over to God, we see some amazing things happen. Miracles do still occur. We just don’t always let them.

My week for freaking out and being frantic was last week, I admit. But this past weekend, God reminded me to “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10). To remember that He is my refuge and my strength.

When the money is tight, He’s my strength.
When the options aren’t there, He’s my strength.
When the questions are mounting, He’s my strength.
When I feel too tired to go on, He is my strength.

Lean on God when you’re feeling weary. Let Him carry you and remember.

It’s okay to be still.

See you back here at noon when I announce the winner for my ebook giveaway! :)
