Wives of Faith’s Twelve Days of Christmas Blog Carnival starts today and even though I know I’m not eligible for the fantastic giveaways, I still wanted to share my thoughts on the different topics.
Today we’re supposed to write about our favorite Christmas song. One of my favorite things about Christmas over the years has certainly been the music. I remember as a kid singing in the big Christmas pageants our church put on and one of my favorite memories was the year I had the big solo in “Angels We Have Heard on High.” The spotlight was shining, the church was full, my heart was pounding, and by the time I got to the second verse, I had forgotten the words! So I did what any professional would do – I hummed the tune until I got to the “Glo-oooo-ooooo-oooo-ria’s!”
My favorite song of all time though actually has no words to it at all. I heard Mannheim Steamroller’s version of Stille Nacht a few years ago and fell in love with it. It is a perfect musical description of all that I hope for when I think of Christmas. Peace and the hope that came with the first breath of a baby’s cry.
Of course, another song that comes in a close second is “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” especially this year. Cliff has been away since the middle of September and I am so excited that one week from today we will pick him up from the airport and he will be HOME! At least for a little while. We’re not sure what 2010 has in store for us in light of our continued unemployment situation, but I am grateful to be able to look back over 2009 and say “Wow. God has certainly taken care of us.” I’m also glad to be able to have my husband back in my arms again. I know it hasn’t been easy for him to be away from us but I’m grateful that he’s been willing to do what he’s had to do both for the Navy and for our family.
Enjoy the music below and don’t forget to pop over to Wives of Faith and check out what other Christmas songs military wives are enjoying!
***UPDATE****
Okay, love reading what other military wives like for Christmas songs and had to share this link to a song I found out about from military wife Jaime – Garth Brooks singing Belleau Wood. Great song that will move you to tears.
