You are here: Home > Faith > Extreme Makeover

God’s design for us never ends, did you know that? Jeremiah 1:5 reminds us of God’s deep commitment to us. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart,” says the Lord.

I know that we often ask why when we’re dealt a hard task or an uncomfortable season in our lives, like deployment or PCSing to a new location. You may even find yourself wishing you could just put life on hold, or at least sleep through it.

But you are more than “just” a military wife or a mom or a daughter. You are someone very special God designed, with traits and talents and hopes and dreams He’s given to only you, making “you” a very important combination indeed.

I don’t believe God takes us through problems and challenges just because He wants to make life hard for us. Even gold has to go through a refining process, and so it’s the same with us. When we’re faced with a hardship, we have three choices: to run and not deal with it, to try and handle it all on our own, or to run to God and let Him handle it, guiding us in our steps and our actions.

What if we were to allow God to perform an Extreme Makeover on us during a deployment? What if, instead of focusing on what we don’t have (our husbands, emotional security, help with the house, help with the kids), we focused on what God may want to give us? A better understanding of Him, a closer relationship with Him, a new outlook on reaching out to others, a peace that only He can provide?

Sometimes we struggle with knowing who we are and wondering who we’re supposed to be. But instead of searching in the mirror for that answer, let’s raise our faces to heaven and allow God to show us.

This is what the Lord says –he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”
