I ran across this article about the bravery and sacrifice a group of Army reservists recently made during their time in the Al Anbar province. That area has seen significant improvement over the last six months or so. It once was called the “Wild Wild West” of Iraq but thanks to improved relationships with tribal leaders in that area and also the surge in troops there, a difference is being made.
Here’s a quote from a reservist who was wounded there and recently received a Purple Heart.
“We’re making a lot of progress,” he said. “People are walking down the streets in Ramadi. You see them moving around. They don’t fear being attacked. We get a good feeling knowing we’re helping that happen.”
