You are here: Home > Faith > The Guiltiness of Guilt

OK, I will wrap up this series I started with a short word about guilt and the superwoman.

One of the things that I think sometimes propels struggling superwomen to be superwomen in the first place is the guilt we feel when we think we need to be the perfect… whatever. Perfect mom, perfect wife, perfect daughter, perfect Christian.

And yet, God doesn’t ask us for perfection. He simply asks us to be available to Himself. If we were perfect, we wouldn’t need God, we wouldn’t need a relationship with Him, and yet, that relationship is the most important thing we can have in this life.

I have worked and worked for years and years to be the best… to be perfect in a sense with everything I do. And yet, I fall WAY short MUCH of the time. :)

I have finally realized that God doesn’t want my perfection. He just wants me. And it’s in our weakest moments that He can shine. Because it isn’t about us at that point. It’s about Him. And all He can and wants to do in our lives.

If you are a struggling Superwoman, I’d like to challenge you to ask yourself why. Maybe you’re going through a deployment and you feel like you have no choice but TO be a superwoman. Maybe so. Or maybe, God wants to use this time not to create you to be a superwoman but to create you to be a woman after His heart – a daughter who realizes that it isn’t about what YOU can do, but what HE will do in your life during this challenging experience.

He can do it. And He will. You just have to ask Him.

Show me your ways, Oh Lord, teach me your paths;
guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
- Psalm 25:4-5

AAAAMen! Boy that is hard isn’t it though. We try to keep up with Mrs. Jones in dress, decorating, cleaning, cooking, raising children, and in the end we fail. We will always fail because we compare. Comparison is a joy killer and it is only through Christ that we can do anything at all, even our very breath comes from Him.
Thanks for your lessons today.
